Lila moves back to her small town to help her Tia run the family restaurant, and she is not thrilled with the change of pace. Then, when Lila’s ex-boyfriend, who is also a mean food critic, dies while eating at her family’s restaurant, things go from bad to worse for the family. When Lila is suspected of the murder, she sets out to solve the case and find the true murderer.
Unspoilery Review
This was a fun book! Was it frustrating at times because I hate innocent people being blamed unfairly? Oh definitely. But was is also a fascinating story full of family, food, and mystery? Yes, yes it was. I had a blast reading this book, and it made me sooooo hungry! I can’t wait to try some of the recipes in the back of the book!
Although I did enjoy the book, a few things bothered me. First, the fact that people were constantly being framed bugged me. Also, I wish there was more resolution at the end of the book. We solved the murder, but we didn’t get much resolution about the relationships and friendships we had seen grow and challenge throughout the story.
That being said, I loved getting to know Lila and her family. Lila was a fun main character who was determined to clear her family’s name. Also, I adored all her nosy, smart, and clever family members. It was so exciting to be in a small town, surrounded by people we knew. Tita Rosie’s restaurant sounds delicious, and I totally want to try their food! Also, I love Lila and Adeena’s relationship, and I really hope we get to see more of them in future books!
Overall this was a thrilling, delicious, and fun book that I would recommend to anyone looking for a food-based murder mystery taking place in a small town. If you are sensitive to people being blamed for crimes they may or may not have committed, then I recommend you reading up on this story before starting the book. Although the events and characters are fictional and based on mystery genre tropes, it might still be triggering to some who have experienced situations like these.
Have you read this book? Does it sound interesting? This was a different genre for me, and I enjoyed it and am looking forward to future books.
