“Destiny could also be a choice, she realized. To believe or not, to be vulnerable or not, to go all in or not.”
Hello everyone! Today I’m bringing you a book review for another wonderful Christina Lauren rom com! This one is a romance about using DNA to determine your level of connection to other people- aka soulmates.
Title: The Soulmate Equation
Author: Christina Lauren
Genre: Adult Romance/ Contemporary
Jess is a single mom and a data wizard. Since she started raising her daughter, Juno, with the help of her grandparents and her wonderful friend Fizzy, Jess has not left time for herself. Although Jess is ready go find a life partner, she’s not thrilled about the dating part. So when Jess and Fizzy learn about a new app called GeneticAlly, a DNA-based matchmaking company, the two decide to submit their spit for analysis.
Not expecting a result, Jess is shocked when she discovers she has an incredibly strong match with someone she just barely knows, Dr. River Pena, co founder of GeneticAlly. But can Jess ignore the match if GeneticAlly wants to pay her to get to know River and confirm the reliability of their algorithms?
This was such a sweet, adorable, sexy book! Although I found the concept of the app and using genes to determine a soulmate strange and slightly off putting, I did have a blast reading this story. As I got used to the idea behind genetically, I really fell into the story and got sucked in by the characters and their relationships.
There was such a fun, amazing connection between Jess and River, and I loved seeing them explore their relationship! They were so cute and attractive, and I enjoyed watching them get along and River become a part of Jess’s world. Watching him with her daughter, June, was absolutely priceless and heartwarming!! I loved all the small ways Jess and River supported one another!
Also, I loved seeing Jess’s friendship with Fizzy! They were so funny and in-synch- I instantly fell in love with them and wanted to work in a coffee shop with them!
Overall this was a fun, addictive romance full of science, laughter, and love. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a rom-com about soulmates, being a single mother, and finding love.
Have you read this book? What did you think of the DNA-based romance concept?
This is definitely one of my favorite Christina Lauren books, but it doesn’t pass up Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating or the Unhoneymooners!
I’d love to hear your thoughts! ☺️
