“But that’s what happens when you grow up- you forget about the magic you’ve seen.”
Today I’m bringing you a book review for a fun, fantastical Peter Pan retelling full of darkness, mystery, and love.
Title: Lost in the Never Woods
Author: Aiden Thomas
Genre: YA Fantasy
Five years ago, Wendy and her brothers went missing in the woods, but only Wendy returned six months later. Now, children are going missing again and Wendy is surprised to find Peter, an imaginary boy she thought was only real in her stories and dreams. To find the missing kids, Wendy must uncover her forgotten memories and face her past that was lost in the woods.
Wow. That was so dark, magical, and fantastic. I’ve heard slightly mixed reviews about this book, but it totally blew me away. I loved all the Peter Pan fairytale elements and the nods to the Disney animated movie, and I adored all the added themes from other, darker Peter Pan stories. It was such a clever, exciting book!
The plot was incredibly fun and gripping! I loved the idea of a shadow becoming its own dark, creepy entity, and I had so much fun watching Wendy and Peter working together to find the children and overcome the shadow.
Wendy is such a lovable, strong main character who has experienced so much pain. It was wonderful to see Peter putting a smile on her face and helping her come to terms with her past and her brothers. Peter was also such a sweet, bright character whose personality shone through the pages. I adored getting to know him, seeing him get older, and watching him interact with Wendy and the kids.
Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a fantastical fairy tale set in a small town and filled with disappearances, intrigue, and magic.
Thanks for reading! Have you seen this book around? Do you think you’d pick it up? I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas!
