Hello everyone! Today I’m bringing you a review of an entertaining, fun book full of drama and romance.

Title: Majesty
Author: Katharine McGee
Genre: YA Contemporary
Series: Book 2 in American Royals
Rating: 3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
This is the second book in the American Royals series, so I recommend reading the first book before getting into this review. If you would like information about the prequel, then please check out my review for American Royals here.
Unspoilery Blurb (From Goodreads)
Power is intoxicating. Like first love, it can leave you breathless. Princess Beatrice was born with it. Princess Samantha was born with less. Some, like Nina Gonzalez, are pulled into it. And a few will claw their way in. Ahem, we’re looking at you Daphne Deighton.
As America adjusts to the idea of a queen on the throne, Beatrice grapples with everything she lost when she gained the ultimate crown. Samantha is busy living up to her “party princess” persona…and maybe adding a party prince by her side. Nina is trying to avoid the palace–and Prince Jefferson–at all costs. And a dangerous secret threatens to undo all of Daphne’s carefully laid “marry Prince Jefferson” plans.
A new reign has begun….
Unspoilery Review (But contains spoilers for first book!!!)
Majesty was such a fun book to read! At first I was unsure about whether I liked it or not, but upon reflection, I’ve decided that I enjoyed it! The story was really interesting to read, and I loved how dramatic some of the parts of the story were!
Majesty is the second book in the series, and it picks up right where the previous book stops. It was interesting to see how the world responded to the King’s death, and I loved seeing Beatrice take over the role of monarch. This book was full of upsetting rules and stipulations, and the romance got deep and fascinating. This book jumped all over the place and I would not recommend this book to anyone looking for a clean, easy read. That being said, I did enjoy the book, and I felt like it dealt with the struggles of first love, duty and relationships, and sacrifices. I felt like all our characters really grew in this book, and I loved where they went during the story!
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed the first book and likes second chance romance, complicated relationships, and dramatic characters. Be warned that this book is not about happily ever afters and fairy tales, rather the story takes a more realistic, developing personalities approach.
Spoilery Review
There are a bunch of characters in this book, so I’m going to split this part by person.
Beatrice: Bee is so strong, clever, and amazing, and she is going to make a fantastic queen! I felt so bad when Bee gave up her relationship with Connor! This is so mature of her! I was incredibly invested with this relationship and I’m still not sure what I think of them now because I was initially furious for Bee, but I loved to see her grow and fall for Teddy as she took on the role of queen. I’m not sure that she could fully become this new person with Connor as a live link to her past, and I do really like her and Teddy together! I’m glad they decided to be honest with one another, and I love watching them grow as a couple!
Samantha: Poor Sam has it rough for a while because her love was engaged to her sister, but she got over Teddy and I feel like she was better for it! I loved watching her grow and prove herself to be clever and useful. I love Sam, and I am so glad that she found Marshall to complement her rambunctious spirit and beautiful personality! These two hilarious characters might have been my favorite part of the story, and I wish we got to know them better as individuals and as a couple! It was great to see a Black character in this story, and it would have been nice to know more about him!
Nina: I felt like Nina was left out of this story. I grew to like her and Ethan together, but it felt really forced to me. I missed her and Jefferson together, and I felt like they didn’t ever have a real conversation this whole book! I wish they had talked through things, and I was sad to not adore her point of view like I did in the first book. Jeff just felt like such an undeveloped, flat character, and I disliked how his and Nina’s relationship seemed to be left out for no reason.
Daphne: I know some people like Daphne, but I can’t get past how awful she is! Everyone she does is selfish, and I got so mad reading her chapters! I wish we had seen her suffer the consequences for her social climbing, but she seemed to have won. Jeff just decided that he loved her, and it was weirdly anticlimactic and strange. Her story really emphasizes how people might not always be working toward what they truly want or need. Her story was kind of strange, but incredibly fascinating.
All in all, this was an entertaining series that was moderately disappointing but very entertaining! I’m fairly content with the ending, and I felt like it did a good job mixing a happily ever after and reality. I wish there was a third book and that everything got solved, but I did think the open, complex ending was interesting.
