Hello everyone! Today I have the pleasure of completing the Get to Know the Fantasy Reader Tag! I’m really excited for this tag because while I have always loved reading fantasy books, I’ve started reading them more frequently now!
I was tagged by the wonderful Etta @ Chonky Books Reviews. Go check out their site for some wonderful, bookish content!

The Questions
What is your fantasy origin story? (The first fantasy you read)
- As far as I can remember, the first fantasy book I read by myself was Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief. I know we read some Magic Tree House books in class, but I think Percy Jackson was the first full series I read alone!

If you could be the hero/heroine in a fantasy novel, who would be the author and what’s one trope you’d insist be in the story?
- Ooo! Interesting! Let’s see, I think I would want the author to be Cassandra Clare, and I would want to be the secret heir character trope with a quest or heist plot.
What is a fantasy series you’ve read this year, that you want more people to read?
- Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko. The second book in this duology comes out August, 2021, and I cannot wait to see how this stunning series ends! 😍

What is your favourite fantasy subgenre?
- This question is hard because there are so many fantasy subgenres! I ended up using the list of subgenres that Etta used. Ultimately, I think I enjoy a blend of high fantasy elements in a historical environment, and I am a sucker for a good fairytale or assassin fantasy.
What subgenre have you not read much from?
- There are many subgenres I haven’t read much from, but two that stick out to me are western fantasies and fantasies of manners.
Who is one of your auto-buy fantasy authors?
- I am always ready to jump into a new fantasy realm, but some of my favorite authors are Cassandra Clare, Rick Riordan, Sarah J Maas, and V.E. Schwab.
How do you typically find fantasy recommendations? (Goodreads, Youtube, Podcasts, Instagram..)
- Mostly through blogging! I come across different fantasy recommendations on other reader’s blogs, and then I’ll often look it up on Goodreads to get more information about it and see what a larger number of people think of the series.
What is an upcoming fantasy release you’re excited for?
- A couple upcoming fantasy releases I’m looking forward to are Chain of Thorns; Redemptor; A Psalm of Storms and Silence; and Gods & Monsters.

What is one misconception about fantasy you would like to lay to rest?
- That they’re “just for fun.” I have read so many amazing fantasy series that are enjoyable and fun to read, but also tackle challenging topics, issues, and beliefs within their stories. Fantasy books are so much more than just fun, they are a new way to see the world.
If someone had never read a fantasy before and asked you to recommend the first 3 books that come to mind as places to start, what would those recommendations be?
- Ooo how hard! Ummm obviously it would depend some on the person asking, but just generally, I would say: The Clockwork Angel, Among the Beasts & Briars, and Scythe. I think these options provide some variety, and are also easy/ exciting.

Who is the most recent fantasy reading content creator you came across that you’d like to shoutout?
- I can’t think of anyone specifically, but the people I’m tagging below are all wonderful sources of fantasy books that I would enjoy!

Thanks for the tag! 🙂 This is a great challenge, I love these questions! I sorta forgot about Magic Tree House but I think those technically might’ve been my first fantasy too. I still have to pick up Raybearer but I’ve heard nothing but good things about it~

I love all of your answers! ❤ I really need to pick up Raybearer as there seems to be nothing, but love for this series, so far! All four of your upcoming fantasy novels are added to my TBR as I need to read them and the rest of the series for most. 🙂
